Who is Your School’s AI Leader?

Who is your school’s AI leader?

I work with administrators and schools to navigate the changing education environment due to artificial intelligence (AI). Through this process, it is clear that many administrators and teachers feel overwhelmed. Some are even fearful. These emotions are powerful and real. This situation prompts a specific suggestion for schools. To best position themselves, I recommend that schools have an identified AI leader.

On school staffs we have reading specialists, teachers who best understand special needs students, and other formal and informal roles. Not everyone has to take the lead with these tasks. You can rely on a “go-to” person on staff for questions and leadership. The same model can be used for AI in your building.

Most schools probably have at least one teacher with an interest or passion in learning more about AI. They would be willing to share that knowledge with colleagues and help guide AI strategies in the school. This model is more sustainable than expecting everyone to be an AI expert.

AI is progressing in society. More questions will need to be answered about the role of AI in the education process. The identified AI leader will be the point person for examining this important issue within your institution.

So who is your school’s AI leader? I encourage you to find that lead within your building. This will help you navigate this disruptive era in society and education.
